About Iris
A coaching tool for people quitting compulsive porn use.
Who is behind Iris
Iris is built by The Iris Team. We build Iris, a coaching tool for people working to quit compulsive porn use. Our writing draws on cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing, the same methods Iris uses day to day. Every guide is meant to be read at 11pm and still be useful.
We started Iris because the existing options ask people to either white-knuckle it alone or wait weeks for an appointment. We wanted something that responds at the moment an urge actually hits, on a device people already have in their hand.
The approach
Iris is built on three evidence-based methods used in clinical practice for compulsive behaviour:
- Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for relapse prevention: mapping the loop that drives use and changing the triggers that feed it.
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for urge tolerance: learning to sit with an urge without acting on it, rather than fighting it head-on.
- Motivational interviewing (MI): working with your own reasons for change instead of lecturing you about them.
Iris is a coaching tool, not a substitute for a clinician. It does not diagnose, and it does not replace professional treatment for anyone who needs it.
Editorial and review
Our guides are written by The Iris Team. We update posts as the evidence and our own practice change, and we mark the last updated date on each one.
Iris is not a medical service and our writing is educational, not a diagnosis or treatment plan. It does not replace personal medical advice from a qualified professional.
